High-silica sand mining and processing enterprise construction project is going to take place in Kormilovskiy section.
Kormilovskiy section is situated on the east from the settlement Kormilovka (Siberian Federal District, Omsk Region). This settlement is 2 km south from the left bank of the river Om’ (which is the tributary of the river Irtysh). The Trans-Siberian Railroad crosses Kormilovka. Railway station has the same name. There is the Federal route M51 “Omsk-Novosibirsk” 2 km south from Kormilovka. This settlement is about 45 km far from the centre of the Omsk Region (Omsk-town). Total area of the Kormilovskiy section is 35 square km.
Kormilovskiy section site plan:

Kormilovskiy section boarders on:
- in the west – highway, which unites the Federal route M51 “Omsk-Novosibirsk” and the center of the region Kormilovka;
- in the south – the “Omsk-Novosibirsk” Railway (about 200 m away);
- in the north and in the east – Kulikovo-Georgievka-Kormilovka highway.
Features of the Kormilovskiy section
Kormilovskiy section is flat with the very highest point from 107 to 108 m. Section is covered with the sparse growth of trees. Deciduous wood covers about 10% of the region(birch). There are no rivers or streams.
A big gas pipe line and electric main take nearby the region.
There is no registered by Russian Federal State Balance of Minerals explored reserves within the bounds of the region.
There are no protected zones in this region.
This plot has a number of advantages in general, which are able to provide effective production and sales:
- favorable geographical position (not far from the center of the region);
- main traffic arteries (auto-, railway, river – from the port of Omsk-town);
- potential labor force (inhabitants of neighbouring settlements);
- engineering services (gas, electricity) connection facility;
- absence of extra encumbrances;
- geographical proximity to potential consumers.
Brief description of the deposit
Kormilovskiy section was originally investigated on the stage of 1:200000 scale geologic-hydrogeological survey in 1964-65. In 1978-80 north-east part of the region (about 3 square km) was explored by complex 1:50000 scale geologic-hydrogeological and engineering-geological survey. Since 2007 Omsk geological survey expedition has been retrieving underground water to provide household water supply of the nearby regions’ centers of Omsk Region. Field operations in Kormilovskiy section has been finished in 2008 (within a radius of 5 km from the region center Kormilovka).
Available geological materials analysis of previous research showed, that sand and siltstone deposits of Guravsk palaeogene suite are the most perspective as raw material for the glass industry. These deposits lie within the region 100-120 m beneath the surface and are presented by fine-grained sand and coarse-grained siltstone. Sand consists mostly of quartz with metallic mineral (ilmenite, zircon etc.). Sand thickness of Guravsk suite is within 20-25 m. Sand is covered with slab floor, mostly clayey, which is an advantage for sand processing by the method of hydraulic borehole mining (HBM).
After organizer of the project has obtained the license, «Siberian Industrial Holding Ltd. » drilled borehole 230 m deep in preproject period. There were different-grained sand with 0,1-0,63 mm fraction predominance and 92,6 – 97,8 % (on average – 95,4%) SiO2 (quartz) tenor, exposed between 199,6-224 m. High-silica sand satisfies the requirements of the State Standard 22551-77, Ò-brand, and by the preliminary data, coordinated with the specialists and top-managers of the glass factory under construction, it is suitable for glass-bottles production. Kormilovskiy section evaluative supply of the quartz glass sand is about 12,5 mln of ton per 1 square km in general.
